How Your Other Life works — an authored, branching story

Your Other Life is interactive fiction. Six decisions, each with three options, select scenes and ending modules that people at Wabiro wrote and reviewed. There are 729 possible paths; the same version and the same choices always produce the same story. Nothing is inferred about you, nothing is generated during the game, and it is not a prediction.

Your Other Life asks a simple question — what if you had taken the other road? — and answers it with a story written by people, not with a model guessing at your life.

The story grammar

The story has six decisions, always in the same order: where the other you wakes up, the work they take, the person who becomes important, what they do with an offer, how they face the day something breaks, and how they answer a message from the life you actually live. Each decision has three options, wherever it appears.

What you read depends on what you chose before. The work scene is written for each place; the friendship scene for each kind of work; the offer scene for each friendship; the turning point for each kind of work, opened by a line that depends on the offer; the final message for each place, opened by a line that depends on the turning point. Every scene has a stable identifier, and an automated check confirms that every scene can be reached, that no scene depends on a choice not made yet, and that every decision changes something later.

How the ending is assembled

The free ending is complete — nothing is held back for a paywall. It is put together from authored modules, each keyed by the choices it may depend on:

  • the life's name and logline — by place and work;
  • a twelve-year timeline — year 1 by place and work, year 3 by work and friendship, year 5 by the offer, year 8 by work and turning point, year 12 by place and final answer;
  • the defining choice — every option carries a weight from 1 to 3 for how far it bends the rest of the life; the decision with the heaviest chosen option is named (on a tie, the later decision);
  • the trade-off — by the offer and the turning point;
  • the strength — by the friendship and the turning point;
  • a surprising implication — by place and the offer.

A module only mentions what its key allows, so no ending contradicts a choice. Every one of the 729 endings is generated and checked automatically in both languages before release.

Rewriting one choice

From your ending you can change any single decision. The other five stay as they were — every decision has the same options wherever it is met — so the story is recomputed from that point, and Wabiro highlights exactly which parts of the ending changed. Returning visitors can also replay from the turning point, keeping the first three decisions.

The optional paid timelines

The optional one-time unlock adds three more fully written parallel lives for your run. Each diverges from your story at one decision and takes a fixed alternative, so the same run always gets the same three: other work from year one (in the same place), another answer to the turning point (in the same work), and another reply to the final message (in the same place), that one followed to year twenty. It also adds a side-by-side map of every choice and story cards to save. A real excerpt — the opening of the first parallel life, for your run — is shown before you decide. The unlock is bound to your run: the server keeps a one-way fingerprint of the story version and your six choices, never the story itself.

What it is not

It is not a prediction, a personality test or advice. It does not know anything about your real life and does not claim that any option is better. It is fiction for fun and reflection.

Privacy

The game and the free ending run on your device. Analytics count steps (started, finished, shared), never your choices or your story. A share link stores only your other life's name. Details in the privacy policy.

Versioning

Structural version 1, copy dated 2026-10-22. A change to decisions, options or how scenes vary creates a new version; purchases and share links keep the version they were made with.
