How Group Chat Court analyses a group chat — privately
Your browser reads the WhatsApp export and counts observable activity — messages per person, time of day, who opens a conversation after 4 hours of silence, follow-ups after 20 minutes without a reply, questions, emoji, streaks and silences. Awards go to the highest (or lowest) value of a documented metric, with ties shared; the verdict is the first of seven documented rules that matches. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is interpreted as feelings.
Group Chat Court turns a group chat into a playful court case — but every award and every verdict is a count, a ratio and a threshold you can read below. It measures activity, never intent.
Where the analysis happens
The export you choose is opened in your browser, in a background worker so large chats do not freeze the page. It is never uploaded. Wabiro’s servers, analytics and Stripe never receive messages, names, phone numbers or the group’s name. When the worker finishes, the message list is discarded; only aggregate numbers and the participant list stay on your device, where you can delete them.
Reading the export
Wabiro reads the plain-text format WhatsApp produces on iPhone and Android, in the common date and time formats (day/month or month/day, 12- or 24-hour clocks, several separators and languages). Day/month order is inferred from the whole file — first from values above 12, then from which order reads chronologically. Lines without a date continue the previous message. System lines (the encryption notice, “X added Y”, subject changes) are set aside; media, deleted-message and call placeholders are recognised and counted as non-text messages. Files are limited to 50 MB, ZIP archives are opened defensively (one text file, size and compression limits), and nothing in a file is ever executed.
Exports carry the local time as written, without a time zone. All hour-of-day figures use that time as written.
What is counted
- Messages per person, and their share of the total.
- Conversation sessions: a new session starts after 4 hours without any message. The person who writes first “starts” it.
- Double texts: writing again after 20 minutes or more with no one else writing in between.
- Bursts: three or more consecutive messages by the same person.
- Comebacks: starting a session after 48 hours or more of group silence.
- Night (00:00–04:59), morning (05:00–09:59) and weekend (Saturday, Sunday) messages.
- Questions (text messages containing a question mark), emoji, laughs (haha, lol, mdr, 😂…), media placeholders.
- Streaks: consecutive calendar days with at least one message; silences: the longest gap between two messages.
Approximate measures
An export does not record which message answers which. So Wabiro approximates: when person B writes directly after person A inside the same session, that counts once for the pair A→B, and the time between the two messages counts as a reply time for B. These figures are labelled approximate wherever they appear. They are described as “appear next to each other most often” or “usually replies fastest” — never as who likes, ignores or prefers whom.
Awards
Each award goes to the member with the highest value of its metric (or the lowest, for The Ghost and The Quick Draw). Rate-based awards only consider members with enough messages (a quarter of the average member, between 5 and 20). Exact ties are shared by up to three members; beyond that, the award is not given.

The free result shows five awards, chosen in the order above while preferring different winners.
The verdict
The first matching rule gives the verdict: one-person show (one member sends ≥ 50% of messages, groups of 3+); night shift (≥ 25% of all messages at night); abandonment (export spans 30+ days, messages on < 15% of days); never logging off (messages on ≥ 80% of days and ≥ 30 per active day); weekend-only (≥ 45% on weekends); a true democracy (nobody above 1.6× an equal share); otherwise organised chaos.
Sharing
A share link stores only the verdict, three totals, the featured award names and the labels you chose for the winners (display names, initials, or none — phone-number names are always hidden), plus the group name only if you opt in. Share pages are not indexed by search engines.
The Full Case File
The optional one-time unlock shows every award, member cards, the monthly timeline, the interaction map, pair details, records and emoji — computed on your device from the same metrics. Payment unlocks the export you analysed, identified by a one-way fingerprint of aggregate numbers (member count, message counts, first and last date). No chat content is involved.
What it is not
Entertainment built on counting. It says nothing about friendship quality, character or feelings, and must not be used to monitor or judge anyone. Wabiro is independent and not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
Versioning
Analysis version 1. Any change to a rule or threshold creates a new version.
